Diamond setting machine price: what actually drives the number

We do not publish a price list, and this article explains exactly why — plus every variable that moves your quotation up or down, so you can compare offers properly.

We do not publish a price list for our setting machines, and buyers reasonably want to know why. This article answers that directly, sets out every variable that moves the number, and gives you what you actually need — a way to compare competing quotations properly.

Why there is no list price

A price is only meaningful if the specification behind it is fixed. With capital machinery it never is. Two customers ordering "an ST-3D 1000" can end up with materially different packages: different voltage configuration, different tooling, different spares holding, different shipping and duty, different installation scope.

Publishing one number would mean publishing a number that is wrong for almost everybody reading it. We would rather quote you properly than advertise a figure you cannot actually buy at.

What you should insist on from any supplier — us included — is a written, itemised quotation. Not a number in a WhatsApp message.

The eight variables that move your quotation

1. The model

The largest single factor. A Mini Pro at 135 kg, 1.3 kW and 3 nozzles is a different class of machine from an ST-HDSSM at 835 kg, 3.5 kW and 8 nozzles. Get the model right first; discussing price before that is discussing nothing.

2. Voltage and electrical configuration

Our machines are catalogue-specified at AC220V/50Hz, with the Mini Pro at single phase 220V 50/60Hz. If your country's supply differs, configuration and any transformer requirement affect the quotation. This is confirmed in writing before we ship — we do not leave it to be discovered at commissioning.

3. Tooling and nozzle package

Nozzles are consumable. What you hold in reserve at handover is a genuine decision: too few and a failure stops production, too many and you have tied up capital. We size it against your expected running hours.

4. Spares holding

Same logic, higher stakes. Ask any supplier what their spare parts lead time is to your location. If the answer is vague, that is your answer.

5. Installation and commissioning

We commission the machine on your floor and train your operators on your own wax, your stones and your designs. Scope varies with distance and with how much process support you need during ramp-up.

6. Shipping and duty

An ST-HDSSM is 835 kg and 1450 × 750 × 1395 mm. Freight, insurance and customs treatment vary considerably by destination, and duties are outside our control — we itemise them so you can see what is machine cost and what is landed cost.

7. Ancillary equipment you must budget for

This is the one that catches people out. The setting machine does not work alone. At stage four of a factory build it sits alongside a compressor and an air dryer — 80 psi (0.4 MPa) for the Mini Pro and ST-3D 1000, 90 psi (0.6 MPa) for the ST-HDSSM — plus tray setting. If a quotation does not mention air, it is incomplete.

8. What else you are buying at the same time

If you are equipping several stages together — say casting and melting alongside setting — the commercial conversation is different from a single-machine purchase. Tell us the whole plan and we will quote the whole plan.

Total cost of ownership, not purchase price

The purchase price is the visible number. These are the ones that decide whether the machine was a good decision three years later:

That last row is the one worth thinking hardest about. A cheaper machine that stops for three weeks waiting for a part from overseas is not cheaper. The control system on our setting machines is self-developed by Semsons Tech, which means diagnosis and fixes do not depend on escalating to a third party abroad — and we have been in this trade since 1978.

How to compare two quotations properly

Put them side by side and check that each one states:

  • Exact model and rated speed, with the parameter table attached
  • Nozzle count and what tooling is included
  • Voltage configuration for your supply
  • Required air pressure, and whether compressor and dryer are included or excluded
  • Spares included at handover
  • Installation, commissioning and training scope
  • Freight terms and whether duty is included
  • Warranty terms and spare parts lead time
  • Delivery date

How much does a diamond setting machine cost?

It is quoted rather than listed, because the final figure depends on model, voltage configuration for your country, tooling and nozzle package, spares, shipping, duties and installation. A Mini Pro and an ST-HDSSM are different classes of machine entirely. Send us your requirement and destination and you will get a written quotation rather than a range that turns out not to apply to you.

Why do jewellery machinery suppliers not publish prices?

What running costs should I budget for beyond the machine?

Compressed air (compressor and air dryer, plus the electricity to run them), consumable nozzles and tooling, routine servicing, and operator training time during ramp-up. On the setting machines specifically, air quality is the running cost that most affects nozzle life.
